  1. DELPHI 3 INSTALLATION NOTES

  4. IMPORTANT:
  5.

  7.      Before installing, you must un-install any previously
  8.      installed version of Delphi 3. You should also back
  9.      up your existing IDAPI32.CFG file before installation.
  10.      If you have installed any previous release of the
  11.      MS Internet Control Pack, un-install that version
  12.      before installing Delphi.

  15. Delphi 3 works with the last release of Delphi 2. However,
  16. be sure to back up important data, including projects you
  17. intend to share between versions 2 and 3, before attempting
  18. to install the new version.
  19.  
  20. Install Delphi from the Setup Launcher on the Delphi CD-ROM.
  21. Under Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0, the Setup Launcher starts
  22. automatically when you insert the CD in your CD drive. Under
  23. Windows NT 3.51, run INSTALL.EXE on the CD. To run the Setup
  24. Launcher on a network or shared drive, you must map a drive
  25. letter to the drive.

  27. From the Setup Launcher, you can install Delphi 3, InstallShield
  28. Express, and other programs. You can also connect directly to
  29. Borland Online to register your copy of Delphi.
  30.  
  31. By default, Delphi installs into the
  32. \Program Files\Borland\Delphi 3 directory. If you install
  33. to a different location, make sure you do not install over
  34. any previous Delphi release. The README file and all other
  35. documentation assume that you have used the default
  36. directory structure.

  38. This release of Delphi includes a new version of the
  39. Borland Database Engine. Unless you change the default
  40. setup directories, Delphi will overwrite existing
  41. 32-bit BDE and SQL Links installations.

  43. After installing, reboot your system so it can replace
  44. any files that may have been locked during installation.

  57. About Sybase SQL Links (Delphi Client/Server)
  58. ---------------------------------------------
  59. If you are installing Delphi and SQL Links for use with
  60. Sybase version 4.2 or lower, select DBLIB when prompted
  61. by the installation utility. CTLIB is recommended for use
  62. with Sybase System 10 and higher.

  65. Minimum System Requirements
  66. ---------------------------
  67. Delphi 3 requires Microsoft Windows 95, Windows NT, or a 100%
  68. compatible operating system; an 80486 or better processor;
  69. 8Mb of system memory (12 recommended) for Windows 95, and 16Mb
  70. of system memory for Windows NT; a monitor with VGA or higher
  71. resolution; a CD-ROM player; and a mouse or other pointing
  72. device.

  74. This release is optimized for Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0,
  75. but will also run under Windows NT 3.51 if Service Pack 5
  76. or later is installed.

  78. The table below shows the amount of hard disk space required
  79. for an installation of Delphi 3 and the Borland Database
  80. Engine. These figures include approximately 10 Mbytes of disk
  81. space that are used only during installation.

  90. Custom Installation

  92. To conserve disk space, you can perform a Custom
  93. installation, selecting only the options you require.

  95. If you are installing Delphi Client/Server and you plan
  96. to use the TMIDASConnection component, you must install
  97. the Internet Controls package.

  100. Un-installing Delphi
  101. --------------------
  102. To remove Delphi from your computer, follow the
  103. directions below.
  104.  
  105. WINDOWS 95 or WINDOWS NT 4.0
  106.  
  107. Open the Control Panel folder, and double-click the
  108. Add/Remove Programs icon. Select Delphi 3 from the list
  109. displayed, then click the Add/Remove button. Follow the
  110. instructions that appear on the screen.

  114. Double-click the UnInstall icon in the Delphi program
  115. group. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen.

  117. Remember that InterBase and other programs installed from
  118. the Setup Launcher require separate un-installation.

  120. NOTE: If you run Delphi setup more than once, un-install
  121. remembers only the last-installed Delphi components. For
  122. example, suppose you choose not to install the Help files
  123. during your first setup, and then run setup again, this
  124. time selecting only the Help files for installation. If
  125. you try to un-install Delphi afterwards, only the Help
  126. files will be removed.
